Jeff Shen

I am a second year graduate student in the Department of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University. I work on foundation models for science with Shirley Ho.

I am interested in generative and probabilistic modelling (diffusion models, normalizing flows, hierarchical Bayesian models), methods for scalable training and inference, and interpretable machine learning. In astronomy, I am interested in the age and chemistry of stars in the Milky Way, and use survey data (Gaia, APOGEE) to study the Galaxy.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Astronomy & Astrophysics and Statistics at the University of Toronto, where I worked on hierarchical Bayesian models for Milky Way mass estimates with Gwen Eadie and on software instrumentation for Dragonfly Narrowband with Bob Abraham.
